Childhood days are the best days with worries about how do I get more sweets than the other siblings .. how do I win the cycle race which goes on everyday besides the banks of the river . How to get saved from the shouting and lectures of elders ..how to sneak in to the house late at night. how to run away from the Gardner after stealing mangoes .. how to gather maximum ice cubes.
Ice cubes remind me...
It was the summer time and .. extremely hot. We were in our village at Grandmothers place customary for every holidays. It was steamingly hot at 1:30 PM. The ringing of the bell indicated the entry of The ice cream wala in our Lane . He passed all the houses from one corner and finally reached in front of our house. Me and other cousins of mine ran, making huge noise and gathered around his small wooden container to select the flavor of our choice since it might not last long. The most famous were mango and orange. There were some other like pista, tooty-fruity and so on.. but kids preferred the lips and tongue coloring mango and oranges. All ice creams were candy sticks.. no cups. After buying them for a meagre 15 paise, we ran to the so called terrace / roof of our house silently without waking our elders.. above we had a store room and open terrace where my granny and aunt used to put awla , mirchi for drying and cow-dung too in one corner.. We took our ice creams and were enjoying every drop of it in the scorching heat. Not bothered abut skin getting dark.. and rashes and so on.. just enjoying the ice Gola in that heat..
Sometimes in that heat suddenly it used to start thundering and pouring.. with small cubes of ice falling from the sky.. That day too it started thundering. We peeped through the window on roof to see what's happening downstairs .. and saw our elders enjoying their evening tea and chatting ...Potatoe wada was decided for the menu for evening brunch. Our happiness had no limits. Wada and in a weather like this where it was about to rain.. we rushed below and confirmed the fact .The ice rollies started pouring ..looked like the sky couldn't bear their weight and finally paved way for them to fall onto the ground. We rushed toward the crackling sounds of the cubes .. and thrilled as we were .. rushed outside to enjoy them.. warnings and shouting were following us as we leaped out of the main corridor and into the heaven of chilled water , ice cubes and with thoughts of wada . No worries about getting cold.. no worries about bunking school , work at office .. no worries about projects .. no worries about future.. just enjoying the present in its whole. With absolutely no thoughts about what's going to happen next..
Life seems to stand still there. These moments make a place in our heart and memorable which cannot be filled with the happiness of acquiring the costliest diamonds of the world .
Those ice cubes are temporary and melt as soon as they fall on earth But their presence is always seen in every aspect of our life reminding us that the toughest of problem get resolved as soon as they get the warmth of courage and
determination .. .........
